Butter Up
It was never a trend
Arguably the most reliable colour in a spring wardrobe - butter yellow. It’s not new or revolutionary, but it always feels freshly noticed every time the weather shifts. Labelled a trend, rediscovered, sold out, repeated. And yet it was always there, and for longer than you think. Softer than white, less predictable than beige, more interesting than cream.
It does what a good neutral should: makes everything around it look better.
Butter yellow isn’t just a statement colour. It’s a practical one. It works in silk, in cotton, in cashmere. It works dressed up, and it works on a Tuesday morning.

J.Crew have a very similar sweater to the Helfi one (seen above), and it comes in approximately every colour you could think of needing - but obviously we’re here for butter.
If you’re considering a butter-yellow shirt without entering financial peril, this one is very good and safely under £100, very Kendall Jenner in that campaign, Well, Well, Well, riding her horse. And for something even more affordable, I absolutely love this checkered ‘90s option from Gap.
The Row have also released a buttery suede pair of mules, swoon. Financially irresponsible? Definitely. Do I want them? Absolutely. There are also these Proenza x Birkenstock sandals, not quite butter yellow, but they make a good statement shoe. Or of course, trusty Havaianas.
And because, at this point, this is a Flore Flore fan page, here are some excellent butter-adjacent basics: long sleeve, cardigan, tank.

For something a little sunnier, it’s got to be this crew sweater from Alex Mill.
A few good pieces if you’re wondering what to pair with yellow: black or white poplin trousers, dark-wash denim, classic sandals or flip flops (I’m loyal to Havaianas), a good black shoulder bag and a simple Henley if you’re doing a yellow bag.
Have I convinced you?
xx
